Christ’s College Old Boy Tama Isaac named Tall Black

11 Feb 2025

Old Boy Tama Isaac has been named in the12-man Tall Blacks squad for February’s FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers against Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Tama will make his debut alongside a fellow College Old Boy, Max Darling. Tama was a member of the U18 FIBA Asia Cup All-Star Five last year, averaging 17.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and a tournament-leading 5.7 assists across six games in Jordan.

The second-year rising Canterbury Rams star was also named MVP at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals and Foot Locker U20 Nationals in 2024 after leading his Christ’s College and Canterbury squads to national titles.

The 18-year-old guard has played at the FIBA U18 Asia Championship, the NBA Global Academy Winter Showcase, and the Australian U20 Nationals since the end of the 2024 NZNBL season.

Coach Judd Flavell says that the national team is future proofing “by going into the depth-charts and looking at players who we believe are going to be Tall Blacks in the future and for a very long time”, and Tama fits that mould.
