Christ’s College hits the mark at clay target nationals

Epic efforts by our clay target boys! Christ’s College shooters have won three individual High Over All titles from the eight available at the South Island and New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships at McLeans Island.
Harry Wilson took the honours in the South Island Points Score, Angus Maxwell in the NZ Single Barrel, and Harrison Johnstone in the NZ Skeet event. With 282 shooters competing in the DTL Championships and 123 shooters contesting the skeet events, these were remarkable achievements in harsh weather conditions.
In the NZ Skeet Championship, Harrison and Oliver Skene were the only shooters in the 123-strong field to shoot a perfect 25/25, setting up an all-Christ’s College shoot-off. Harrison claimed the High Over All title, while Oliver finished 1st after the shoot-off. Oliver was also 2nd in the South Island Skeet Championship after another shoot-off and won selection for the three-person South Island Skeet team, which defeated the North Island.
Meanwhile, Christ’s College secured two of the top-three spots in the NZ Skeet Teams event, with Harry and Harrison 1st on 48/50, and Oliver and Bradley Roycroft 3rd on 47/50. Harry and Angus were both selected for the Canterbury Fish & Game Regional team which competed against regional teams from around New Zealand, and Harry was also 3rd in the NZ Aggregate High Gun.
