Building bridges to learning in STEM Week

29 May 2026

From a mental ‘clash’ of the bridge-building masters and students to a rapid-fire episode of ‘Beat The Teachers’, STEM Week has united the Houses in a test of knowledge, model engineering, and highly competitive Esports.

Driven by the Academic Committee, STEM Week has provided a school-wide platform for boys to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. No matter the year level, boys have got creative and tapped into their problem-solving powers.

For Head of Academic Nico Blundell, it has been “great to see such a wide range of students getting involved in activities, with all year levels and Houses in the mix”.

He believes that “the reinstatement of STEM Week has encouraged more boys from across the school to tackle an array of challenges, and share their skills”.

Bridging the years in each House, boys and staff have gathered for a meeting of the minds to construct a model bridge in a high-pressure race against the clock, with Julius House holding off the science teachers for an impressive win and Condell’s House in third spot.

“It was inspiring to see the level of engagement, especially when building bridges,” Nico says. “And thank you to the teachers for definitely adding to the competitive atmosphere this week."

Meanwhile, the students have proved too knowledgeable for the ‘chasers’, despite the impressive efforts of a trio of experts in Mathematics, Physics, and English.

A trivia challenge has also drawn a well-informed group while the week has culminated in a hard-fought Esports Brawl Stars contest, won by School House.
