For the first time in more than 10 years, Christ’s College has won a major award at the SGCNZ VUW National Shakespeare Festival in Wellington.

Directors Cole Moffatt and James Anderson and actors Bill Cross, Alex Johnstone, and Tessa de Wit (St Margaret’s College) have pooled their considerable talents to claim the Outstanding Performance of a Comedy Scene prize for their standout scene from The Merry Wives of Windsor.

For Alex, it was “an amazing environment and brilliant to be surrounded by some of the best secondary school actors in the country” while Cole adds that the festival helps to place “Shakespeare in a new and exciting context.

Held at the St James Theatre, the festival featured performances from about 50 schools from around New Zealand.
