An IDEAL week for Round Square

17 Nov 2025

From musical chairs and a global anthem quiz to a multilingual Chapel service and an Assembly featuring an Old Boy basketball player, Junior Round Square Week was an international winner for College students.

The immersive week with a global perspective got under way in Chapel on Monday as Charlie Syme reflected on the place of faith in common humanity, Max Hindmarsh gave a reading in Portuguese, and Bene von Wuelfing read the prayers in German.

The Round Square IDEALS – Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service – were also highlighted in a new school poster,

Among the other activities, a series of games built up to an exciting finish, with competitors gradually eliminated throughout the week.

First up, about 100 boys gathered on Upper, poised to play ‘red light, green light’. Only 50 made if through to the next round – musical chairs. In an intense battle to snare a chair, 30 boys grabbed a spot in the following round – a heads and tails quiz on Wednesday. By Thursday, only 10 boys were left to bite into the blind food-tasting contest. Arthur Brown was the top taster, followed by Sam Moore and Max Inglis.

Meanwhile, George Greig, Elliot Ackroyd, and Tim Zhao proved that they knew their anthems in the international quiz.

Wrapping up the week, the Junior Round Square Assembly welcomed Old Boy Mason Whittaker. Mason shared his international adventures, including biking across the United States and completing his degree at American University in Washington DC, having won a full basketball scholarship.
