Three College athletes – Year 13 student Harry Hartstone and Year 12 students Sam King and Cody House – were selected for the Canterbury athletics team that competed at the New Zealand Track & Field Championships, held at Porritt Stadium, Hamilton, from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 March.
Harry Hartstone ran a personal best in the U18 400m prelims, and won silver as a member of the Canterbury U18 4 x 400m relay team.
Sam King was fifth in the U18 200m finals, took bronze in the U18 400m finals and won two silver medals as a member of the Canterbury U18 4 x 400m and 4 x 100m relay teams.
Cody House won silver in the U18 long jump, with a personal best of 6.66 metres. He also came seventh in the U18 200m finals, and won a second silver medal with the Canterbury U18 4 x 100m relay team.
As a result of their performances at this meet, Sam and Cody are eligible for selection for Oceania and World junior athletics events.
The College athletics team is now training for the South Island Secondary Schools Championships, to be held in Dunedin early next month.
