Welcome back – 65 & 75 Years On
28 Oct 2026
Doing a headstand dive from the wooden springboard into the icy College pool, relishing gym time with “ex-army man Hec Mackay”, and discovering a love of history through teacher Don Hamilton. It was all about reliving their schooldays as Old Boys gathered in the Christ’s College Dining Hall for a very entertaining and lively lunch.
The 65 & 75 Years On reunion was a time of celebration, connection, and camaraderie, with plenty of stories told as the memories flooded back when the Old Boys wandered through the College gates. From Congers to the College Museum and Upper West, the Old Boys were determined to see it all and take in the evolution of the College campus.
For JD Milne Cameron (7142) – a member of Julius House from 1961–1965 – it was the excitement of jumping off the wooden plank that served as a springboard over the old pool and the science of dissecting frogs. A member of School House from 1951–1954, Peter Macfarlane (5954) recalled the formidable Hec Mackay, master of the old gym.
Meanwhile, College guide David Strack (7232) – a member of Harper House from 1961–1965 and the 1st XI hockey team – fondly remembered being inspired by Don Hamilton, crediting the teacher and author with sparking a passion for history.
While Condell’s House student Peter Scales (5969) was at his happiest in the woodwork room, Flower’s House member Andy Shand (5972) simply enjoyed Mathematics. Harry Hornsby certainly made an impression on Brian Stokes, with the former Flower’s House student appreciating the Headmaster's current affairs lessons.
However, Pip Hall (7162 – Condell’s House) and Alastair Burns (7141 – Julius House) preferred to be outdoors, on the rugby field and tackling trails with the Venture Group, respectively.
