Guy sets up his own business

When he established Buchanan Financial Partners in 2020, Guy Buchanan (11691) took the biggest step of his financial planning career.

He had worked as a specialist risk insurance adviser for 17 years in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, but the time had arrived to do things his way.

“I think figuring out the environment I work best in, and understanding that my passion is in the ability to drive my own business has been the most satisfying part of reaching this point.

“I’m passionate about being a business owner and protecting people’s assets, be they health or financial. I have personal experience of life changing outcomes that have resulted from clients having the right covers in place.”

Guy left College in 1997, completed a Diploma in Business Studies from ARA in Christchurch, and moved to London working in underwriting for a Lloyds of London syndicate.

He spent more than six years with Amicus Group in Christchurch and time in Sydney with Wealth Partners, before returning to Christchurch to have a family with his Irish born wife, Niamh.

“Since then I have been a director of Clientside and Rede Advisers, and in 2016 completed a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies endorsed in Personal Financial Planning through Massey University.”

He loves spending time with his two young children, regular trips to Ireland, single malt whisky, running and skiing.
