Building on the best foundation
Entrepreneur and altruist Marty Murchison (13303) has literally built a sustainable residential construction business from scratch.
After leaving Christ’s College in 2008, the founder of Amberley-based Murchison Homes worked multiple jobs to buy his first home at age 20.
He offered his labour for free to learn on the job with roofing, painting, and building companies to eventually grow a flourishing business underpinned by sustainable materials.
Recently, he shared his inspirational journey – and underlined the importance of always supporting each other – with senior students during College’s Career Convos session.
Marty told the boys to always bring balance to their lives, and discussed the ‘What might you do? How will you do it? Why are you doing it?’.
He emphasised the ‘Why’, saying that he never got into building just to make money.
Founded in 2016, Murchison Homes offers ‘healthy living’ house and land packages in North Canterbury.
A few years ago, Marty funded the mortgage – for a year – for a young Christchurch couple to help get the pair on the property ladder. In return, their home – built by Marty’s company – became a show home for a few hours at the weekend.
