Ben Breitmeyer bowls into U19 national cricket side
Old Boy Ben Breitmeyer has been named to represent New Zealand at the U19 ICC World Cup Qualifying Tournament in June in Darwin, Australia.
In October last year, the then Year 13 student was selected for the Canterbury A cricket squad. A fast bowler, Ben was also an integral member of the 2022 Gillette Cup-winning College 1st XI, finishing the secondary schools tournament among the top wicket-takers.
Head of Jacobs House, Ben also received his 50th 1st XI appearance cap last year. He was named a Lincoln University Cricket Scholar for 2023.
New Zealand has to compete in the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup East Asia Pacific qualifying tournament from June 10–22 after missing the 2022 World Cup because of Covid-19. Seven teams (New Zealand, Indonesia, Fiji, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Vanuatu) will line up in the qualifier tournament, with the winner progressing to the U19 World Cup in January–February 2024 in Sri Lanka.
