Year 11 student Mark Ma thinks education should be about opportunity and in his opinion a Western education delivers a very different, more desirable, learning experience. College has everything he was looking for: a nice campus with excellent facilities, quality teaching, a wide range of subjects and co-curricular activities, and comfortable accommodation.
Mark enjoys mathematics, design and visual communication, and technology. Swimming and basketball are his favourite sports and he loves living next to Hagley Park.
Mark acknowledges Chinese culture is very different from New Zealand and sometimes he can find things hard to understand – but says bridging cultural divides enriches everyone. He had a great time teaching his housemates in Flower’s House to make Chinese dumplings, and likes the friendly and inclusive House atmosphere.
