A game of two halves

21 Mar 2017

The annual 1st XI cricket fixture against Wanganui Collegiate was played at the Christ’s College Cricket Ground in Hagley Park on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 March.

It was not looking good for College, when Wanganui Collegiate took a healthy lead on Day 1. However, coach Warren Lidstone described it as a game of two halves, “After the first day, College was way behind, by 170 runs. But on the second day, the boys batted really well, scoring 334 runs to salvage a draw, which saved the game.”

College 1st XI captain Isaac Bird said, “The team fought back hard after getting smashed on the first day. We wouldn’t have got a draw without everyone’s contribution.” He was particularly impressed by team members Harry MacDonald and Kurtis Weeks, who had an excellent batting partnership. Harry scored 92 and Kurtis 83 runs. “They saved us,” said Isaac.

Isaac said the team has real potential and he hopes they will get a good result in the nationals later this year.
